The 14th Degree is one of my favorite degrees in Freemasonry. The 3 rings around the ring signify the unbreakable bond between all Freemasons of all generations. The 14th Degree ring is a flat, band made of many types of metals. My choice would be either in 10K or 14K yellow gold. Placed upon the top of the ring is an equilateral triangle. Within the triangle, is the letter yud which signify the initial letters of Jehovah in Hebrew. How Long Has The Masonic Ring Been In Existence?
Freemasons have been wearing aprons, jewels and rings to identify with Freemasonry ever since the first Masonic lodges came into existence in England in the early 1700’s. When a man becomes a Mason, he must pass through three levels of Masonry starting with the Entered Apprentice, and then advancing to the Journeyman and then on to the Master Mason. Gold filled jewelry is quickly gaining popularity in the United States. It is a quality material that is easy to care for and maintains its brilliance for a long time. The process involves layering two or three layers of gold alloy that is bonded to another surface such as brass. Gold filled is required to contain 5% or 1/20 gold by weight. The 5% is then described by the KT of the gold alloy. Gold filled jewelry is identified by 10/20 or 10/14 or 10KT Gold filled or 14KT Gold filled is also acceptable. Gold filled will not peel or delaminate like a “dipped” product. It will also not tarnish like many sterling silver products. Gold plated jewelry is where a minute layer of solid gold is applied to a brass base. It is estimated to be about .05% or less of the metal product. Do not confuse gold plate with Vermeil which is a thicker layer of gold normally applied over sterling silver rather than a base metal such as brass. To be considered Vermeil, the plating should be a minimum or 2.5 microns thick.

The Freemasons always end their prayers with “So Mote It Be” What does it mean and why do they do it?
Typically in English, prayers are ended with the word “Amen”. Amen is actually a Latin word meaning “So Be It” or “So May It Be”. Amen is a declaration of affirmation that is found in the New Testament and Hebrew Bible. It has been since adopted into Christian worship and is used at the end of hymns and prayers.
In so far as why do Freemasons use it at the end of their prayers, the answer goes back to 1390AD. The term was used in the Regius Poem of 1390. The Regius Poem is the oldest known Masonic document and is currently on display in the British Museum in London.
It is one of the Old Charges used by Masons to regulate their trade as well as serving as a document to guide the rules of manners and moral conduct of the Freemasons. The Old Charges are documents handed down to the Freemasons from the 14th century. The documents are found in the form of handwritten documents on paper and parchment rolls having been sewn together or pasted and are stitched together in book form. Some of these documents date back to 1390 until 1714.
In keeping up with a 600 plus year tradition, the Freemasons end their prayers today in the same way they did clear back in 1390 by saying “So Mote It Be”.
