The Knights Templar were brought down in 1307 by Pope Clement V and King Philip IV of France, who also detained Jacques de Molay, the grand master, on allegations of heresy, sacrilege, and Satanism. Molay and other prominent Templars confessed under torture and were ultimately set ablaze.
